A Designer’s Outdoor Oasis With Presrv™ Outdoor Refrigerator
Interior Designer Andrea West of Andrea West Design transforms her outdoor kitchen into a casual, yet chic space for her young family. Featuring Andrea’s favorite oversized pendants, red brick herringbone floors, added cabinetry and storage (for all those outdoor toys!), and a Presrv™ Outdoor Refrigerator, the outdoor space has become the family’s favorite spot for entertaining and everyday living. Andrea West Design is a full-service interior design firm established by Aaron and Andrea West, a husband-and-wife duo that specializes in residential interior design.
Designing Our Dream Outdoor Kitchen
Q1: Tell us about your outdoor renovation project.
A1: My husband and I love to spend time outdoors with our three young children, which frequently involves mealtimes and eating outside. We knew we wanted to design an outdoor kitchen space to have a comfortable spot to grill and host outdoor dinner parties. We started with the basic layout of the space, adding in cabinetry storage and must-have items which includes the appliance list and even storage for outdoor toys.
Overcoming Renovation Challenges
Q2: What were some of the challenges you faced?
A2: Some of the challenges we faced during the renovation was finding the right built-in griddle that was the right size that also had the grease trap placement where we wanted it, and also the gas line placement to all fit within our design plan. Also making sure that all of the utility lines were thought through to have both power and gas run for all of the appliances to function, and of course planning for my oversized pendants that I love. Our last challenge was the decision for the outdoor countertop. We explored many different materials and elements, and ended up deciding to go with a cement countertop to keep the maintenance and price point lower. We have absolutely loved it!
Design Details & Must-Haves
Q3: When it came to redesign your new outdoor kitchen, what were some of the “Must-Haves” you wanted to feature in the finished space?
A3: Our “Must-Haves” included my favorite oversized outdoor pendants, having both a Black Stone and a Traeger to cook our meats to perfection, and of course having the Zephyr Outdoor Refrigerator to hold all of our favorite fancy drinks.
Inspiring Outdoor Design
Q4: Tell us about the design inspiration for the outdoor kitchen.
A4: I have always loved the look of white in an outdoor space, and wanted to bring in the organic and casual feel of white stucco against a natural cement countertop. I love these two materials paired together as it keeps it feeling upscale yet effortless. Our home also has red brick pillars on the front, and I wanted to bring in the same red brick element through a red brick herringbone floor. We have also always loved the Teppanyaki-style eating where everyone can gather and sit around the cooktop which greatly inspired the design of our appliance placement and incorporating a countertop overhang with stools for additional seating.
Q5: Have you received an uptick of interest in outdoor project renovations since sharing your new outdoor kitchen?
Yes, absolutely! We have been so thrilled to see our design community loving our outdoor space as much as we do and have a lot of requests to design outdoor kitchens similar to our own. We always love reimagining spaces to fit each individual family we work with, and are excited to share what our family has loved so much about ours.
