Designer Spotlight | Hommeboys Interiors, Zephyr Monsoon Connect, and Zephyr Presrv® Panel Ready Wine & Beverage Coolers

Tucked into the hills of Carmel Valley, this 1976 California ranch home was reimagined by Hommeboys Interiors to honor its original character while bringing it into the present. With panoramic views of the mountains and ocean, the residence balances natural textures, moody moments, and family-friendly warmth. To complete the vision, Hommeboys incorporated the Monsoon Connect Insert range hood, the Presrv™ Panel Ready Wine Cooler, and the Presrv™ Panel Ready Beverage Cooler from Zephyr, combining thoughtful design with powerful performance. Q1: Tell us a bit about the site and setting. What makes the landscape unique?

A1: The home is set against a hillside with terraced gardens and a lower-level guest house. From nearly every angle, you can see panoramic views of Carmel Valley, the mountain range, and even glimpses of the ocean. It feels very rooted in the landscape yet designed for modern family living.

Q1: Who are the homeowners?

A: The couple are both physicians. She is an anesthesiologist, and he is an orthopedic surgeon. They have two young sons and bring a joyful, vibrant energy to the home.

Q: What inspired the nods to the 1970s in the design?

A: The home is a classic California ranch built in 1976. It already had influence from that era but needed significant updates and reworking. We chose to make nods to the 1970s by opting for organic materials and bespoke detailing. The result is a textural, elevated space that still feels cozy and family friendly.

Q: The dining room has a moodier plaster finish than we often see. Why was that choice right for this home?

A: Instead of working against the natural lighting, we leaned into it. We used a rich brown Roman Clay from Portola Paints called Forest Floor, which created a moody-yet-inviting atmosphere. The space is designed for entertaining, with the plaster adding depth and drama before opening into the brighter living area with panoramic views.

Q: Why did you select the Zephyr appliances?

A: We’ve used Zephyr in many of our projects because the performance and design always deliver. For this home, the Monsoon Connect Insert range hood was an easy choice. It has incredible power, connects to the Zephyr App for ease of use, and comes in a range of sizes with professional baffle filters.
